Research
Much of the funds that the Cancer Council Tasmania raises go to cancer research. At the begining of each year we allocate funds received from public donations to a wide range of cutting edge cancer research in Tasmania.

Over the past 15 years, we have allocated over $3 million to cancer research in this state thanks to the generous support of the Tasmanian community. All our research is assessed by experts in the field to ensure that projects with the best chance of success are supported. 

Peer-assessed research has led to major advances in our knowledge about cancer and this knowledge has led to improved treatments for cancer. Research also identifies treatments with fewer side effects and leads to more sophisticated early detection methods, which often means better patient outcomes.

We are the largest independent funder of peer-assessed cancer research in Tasmania. This funding comes from generous public support through Australia's Biggest Morning Tea and Daffodil Day, memorial donations in lieu of flowers and bequests.

 
Cancer+ scholarships - Now Open

Professional development scholarships for health and education professionals who are involved with children, adolescents and young adults (up to 25 years) with cancer.  

The cancer+ program supports Tasmanian families with children, adolescents or young adults with cancer, the survivors of childhood cancer and the professionals who care for them.

Jeanne Foster Scholarship - Now open

The Jeanne Foster Scholarship provides funds to support health professionals working in cancer control.  Awards are given to assist applicants to participate in an approved short course/subject of professional development or to attend a conference or seminar related to cancer control.

Seize the Day Awards - Now Closed

The Seize the Day Awards help post secondary education costs for young Tasmanians whose lives are affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly. If you are a Tasmanian aged between 16 and 25 and have been affected by cancer directly, or through an immediate family member, and are pursuing further education, you are eligible to apply.

The Awards go towards costs such as + course fees + textbooks + stationery + course equipment + transport + accommodation

The Seize the Day Awards are part of Cancer Council Tasmania's cancer+ program which supports families with children, adolescents and young adults with cancer, survivors of childhood cancer and the professionals who care for them.
