Building windows
House window glass filters out about 90% of UV rays and office windows filter out about 97.5%. Windows under deep eaves, verandas or awnings transmit less UV rays.

In general, ultraviolet (UV) radiation through the windows of buildings poses little risk unless people spend extended time close to a window that gets the direct sun.

Car windows
People in cars may be exposed to UV radiation, especially if they travel with the side windows down. However, most car windows absorb a significant amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and provide excellent shade for their occupants.

Clear car windows block about 97% of the UVB and about 37% of UVA rays. Laminated windscreens block all UVB rays and about 80% of UVA radiation. Clear windscreen films can block up to 97% of the UVA radiation, depending on the quality of the film. Clear or tinted window films applied to non-laminated windows can substantially reduce the UV rays transmitted into a vehicle.

People can also reduce the effects of UV radiation in a vehicle by wearing a long-sleeved shirt, sunglasses and SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen on exposed skin.
