When a young person is diagnosed with cancer it can be difficult time for them, their family, friends and wider community.
Cancer Council Tasmania's cancer+ program supports Tasmanian families of children, adolescents and young adults with cancer, survivors of childhood cancer, and the professionals who care for them.
There is a range of support and information available for families when a young person is diagnosed with cancer, during and after treatment and for bereaved families.
cancer+ can assist families and others in the community with information and support when a young person they know is affected by cancer.
cancer+ can assist young people, family members, friends, health professionals and the wider community with:
+ guidance on the range of community services available to assist young people affected by cancer and their families.
+ Information on aspects of childhood cancer, adolescent and young adult cancers
+ Resources - brochures and books for those diagnosed with cancer and their families and schools
+ Emotional support for immediate and extended family
+ Financial support including assistance from the Rachel & Jye Fund.
+ Bereavement support for parents and their families
+ Scholarships
+ Seize the Day Awards for young people affected by cancers themselves, or those affected through the diagnosis of an immediate family member
+ cancer+ scholarships for health and education professionals working with young people with cancer

Seize the Day Awards
The Seize the Day Awards help post secondary education costs for young Tasmanians whose lives are affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly. If you are a Tasmanian aged between 16 and 25 and have been affected by cancer directly, or through an immediate family member, and are pursuing further education, you are eligible to apply.
The Awards go towards costs such as + course fees + textbooks + stationery + course equipment + transport + accommodation
The Seize the Day Awards are part of Cancer Council Tasmania's cancer+ program which supports families with children, adolescents and young adults with cancer, survivors of childhood cancer and the professionals who care for them.
Award opens 1 September
Award closes 30 November
